Wilt's House

Los Angeles, CA

Basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain built this house, a 1970s icon of Brutalist architecture set on 2.5 acres on a hilltop overlooking Los Angeles, with architect David Tenneson Rich. Our clients, who purchased the house from Chamberlain’s estate, were funny (they were comedy writers in Hollywood), adventurous, and cared deeply about adaptive reuse and sustainable design. The brief for the landscape was to create a garden that could absorb rainfall, needed little supplemental water, and would work with the existing trees and the massive stone work of the house.
