The construction of a new community room at the Library created a courtyard. The program created a plaza for gathering, a series of gently screened reading rooms, and shading of the new south-facing windows. The plant palette was minimal: a forest of weeping Shoestring Acacia (Acacia stenophylla), underplanted with Mexican Feather Grass (Nasella tenuissima) and Deer Grass (Muhlenbergia rigens). Together these formed separate zones of use, a repetitive ground pattern and a veil of shade across court. The slope planting is primarily grey-leaved Prostrate Acacia (Acacia redolens) and red-flowering Torch Aloe (Aloe arborescens).
